Do WHATEVER (you want)
Often times when I meet people abroad or even in the U.S. I end up discussing what I do (travel, take pics, etc..) and often I hear WOW!!! That's so cool, I wish I could do that... I think that's awesome, I want to do that!! So, here's the a story with just that idea. Do whatever you want.I was watching a video a few minutes ago from one of my favorite Youtuber's (Peter McKinnon) and I had the idea to write this article. He put out a video and it really struck a cord with me. So, he was discussing a time when he was in school. It was a design course and he had to create a website in which they had to also pick a name. As other students were choosing different creative names and sharing ideas, Peter had already chose his. His name. His reasoning was because he was the one who was doing the work. The mind behind it. The one who was making the choices. Which he then applied to his channel in saying that it's his channel and his work, he's the one who is ultimately choosing what to post and what to do.A few days ago I was talking to my brother and we were discussing a hypothetical situation. We often get caught in deep conversation and philosophical jabber and the topic of travel and my love life came up. Ha. So, I had said that I wasn't sure I wanted to be done traveling and that I wouldn't be sure that a girl would be into the lifestyle I live. Especially as people continue to gain more commitments and responsibilities (of a different nature) in life. To which his rebuttal was a bit striking, yet something I have said and believe in. He said that none of that matters. You can sell the house, give away the stuff, break off the relationship, and go after what you want. You'll have some ruined relationships and maybe some money problems, but it will work itself out, because there's few times we have that moment of clarity. If there is something that you want then you have to go after it. The moment that allows you to let yourself to go after what you want. One of my favorite videographers Rory Kramer recently released a teaser video for some of his photography work that he did prints in collaboration with a brand. In the video there is an opening shot that sets the scene where Rory is talking about the topic of being in full potential. He says that every moment should be your best because you have control of making it your best. Other things exist and matter, but in those moments you have the choice to make them the best that you can.So, this ultimately leads to what I think. I agree with a whole a lot of the above. I think that in life we have live with our choices. We must understand that some of those choices will have a ripple effect into the world. Ultimately though, we are the ones who make the choice and we are the ones who have the power to change what happens in our life. It will take sacrifice, it will take work, it won't come easy, butt...We can do whatever we want, once we decide what it is we want.At the end of the video Peter says that he has worked his whole life to be able to do what he wants and how I interpret that is this. We can find ourselves in situations we don't like. Doing things we don't want to do. with people we may hate. BUT ALL OF THAT MATTERS, because in order to know what we want, in order to be able to choose what path we want, in order to understand what it is we want to do and how to go after it. We first have to do understand what it is we don't want, who we can't be around, and what it is we. Just. Can't. Do.On purpose,Matt
